Using the work–family enrichment (WFE) model and social exchange theory as the theoretical underpinnings, our study investigates WFE as a mediator of the effects of material resources (i.e. salary, job security) as well as psychological resources (i.e. self-esteem) on career satisfaction. Our study gathered data from frontline employees (FLEs) in small- and medium-sized hotels in Delhi, the capital city of India, and gauged the aforementioned relationships through partial least squares structural equation modelling. The results suggest that FLEs’ satisfaction with salary and job security needs fosters WFE that in turn gives rise to satisfaction with their career in the organisation. The results also suggest that FLEs’ satisfaction with esteem needs stimulates WFE that in turn engenders career satisfaction. We discuss theoretical and practical implications of the empirical findings in the paper.  相似文献

This paper examined differences in generativity and meaning in life among middle-aged and older adult volunteers for the 2010 Vancouver Winter Olympic Games. It was hypothesised that older volunteers would exhibit a stronger association between sense of belonging and meaning in life, whereas middle-aged ones would demonstrate a stronger association between self-esteem and meaning in life. Data were utilised from the Older Olympic Volunteer Project, which collected the information on volunteering experiences among 255 middle-aged and older adults before and after the intensive mega-event. For middle-aged volunteers, the association between self-esteem and meaning in life increased significantly after controlling for socio-demographic factors. Among older volunteers, the association between sense of belonging and meaning in life also strengthened. The associations between self-esteem, sense of belonging and meaning in life were not replicated for the other age group as predicted. Overall, the findings support generative processes linked to volunteering experiences.  相似文献

The Indian market has got flooded with Chinese goods that pose a great threat to indigenous businesses. Despite increase in bilateral trade, the relationship between India and China continues to be marred with suspicion, animosity and distrust. Therefore, it becomes meaningful to understand how the consumers distinguish between domestic and Chinese goods. The study examines the relationship between ethnocentrism, customer animosity, social status and personal self-esteem and their impact on purchase intention towards Chinese imports. The results indicate that the attitudes and behaviour of consumers in an emerging nation differ greatly from their counterparts in developed nations. Contrary to expectations, the relationship between ethnocentrism and customer animosity is not significant. Personal self-esteem and customer animosity impact the purchase intentions of Indians while ethnocentrism and social status do not have any such influence. The study seeks to expand the existing literature on purchase intention of foreign products and also help the marketers design their marketing mix strategies.  相似文献

This exploratory study was aimed at understanding more about theconcept of integrity, first, and second, to identify whatintegrity looked like in practice. The sample consisted of over300 high school students who completed a college entrance essayabout acting with integrity as part of their college application. Their responses were content analyzed along a number ofdimensions. Results revealed, in the first place, some confusionabout the concept of integrity. The focus of acting withintegrity was most often directed to one's own behaviors ratherthan the behaviors of other people but, in this regard, theactions typically assumed a leadership responsibility (in apersonal rather than organizational context). Self-esteem wasone very important reinforcing outcome of such actions.  相似文献

文章通过问卷调查和上下级之间的配对样本,探讨上级的辱虐管理对下级员工建言行为的影响及机制,尤其是研究组织自尊在其中的中介作用及员工个性控制点的调节作用.实证结果表明:辱虐管理对员工抑制性建言行为和促进性建言行为均有显著的负向影响,组织自尊在两者之间起到了完全中介的作用;员工个性控制点对辱虐管理和员工组织自尊之间的关系具有显著的调节作用,也就是说员工个性控制点水平越高(越内控),辱虐管理对组织自尊的负面影响就越小;当员工的个性控制点水平越低(越外控),辱虐管理对组织自尊的负面影响就越大.  相似文献

This study aims to discover the influential factors and critical moderators that can enhance the perceived value that international tourists feel towards medical travel. A total of 259 international tourists were surveyed using questionnaires. The results were analysed using structural equation modelling, and the findings are as follows. Firstly, hospital elements, such as service quality, hospital credibility and hospital image, all influence the perceived value of medical travel. Moreover, the results also confirmed the positive moderating effects of personal-factors (risk attitude and self-esteem) and an external factor (word-of-mouth), which can increase the influences of these hospital elements on the perceived value of medical travel.  相似文献

Brand community engagement is evolving as a prominent relationship marketing variable that yields promising outcomes for the firms. Drawing upon the relevant premises of social exchange theory, this paper proposes a theoretical model portraying the role of online brand community based benefits (experience based and self-esteem based) and the community relationship investment in predicting the levels of brand community engagement.Data collected through a survey questionnaire technique from 925 members of the firm created online brand communities was employed to test the measurement and structural theory using confirmatory factor analysis and structural equation modeling respectively. The empirical results reveal that the customers’ experiential and self-esteem based benefits drive their brand community engagement. The perceived community relationship investment of the members also drives their brand community engagement positively. The sequential structural model also supported a positive impact exerted by brand community engagement on brand community commitment and brand loyalty. Additionally, it is observed that the focal brand ownership moderates the effect of community benefits and community relationship investment on brand community engagement.This study contributes to the nascent academic research on online brand communities and to the existing understanding of the brand community managers in managing customer engagement in online brand communities, thereby of profound theoretical and managerial relevance.  相似文献

The service encounter is an important social context for hospitality service providers who strive to satisfy their need for job competence by delivering excellent customer service. Customer mistreatment may be perceived as a sign of work-related goal failure by hospitality service providers. Building on the literature of goal attainment and failure in the workplace, we propose that hospitality employees, who experience customer mistreatment, undergo diminished organization-based self-esteem (OBSE), decreasing service performance. Moreover, employees’ locus of control is proposed to interact with customer mistreatment and predict service performance through the mediation of OBSE. The results of a multi-wave and multi-source survey, administered to a sample of hotel frontline employees (N = 180) and their direct supervisors (N = 38), show that customer mistreatment has a negative influence on service performance through OBSE, but only among employees with an external locus of control.  相似文献

情境因素会导致消费者心理状态发生变化,对他们后续消费行为产生影响。基于自我肯定理论,本文探讨了社会排斥这一情境因素对消费者地位消费行为倾向的影响机理,认为消费者需要借助地位消费行为带来的自我肯定效用,以提升由社会排斥导致的自我价值感知威胁而诱发的自尊感知下降。以MBA、公司员工、在校本科生为被试,通过四项实验研究,本文发现,社会排斥能对消费者的地位消费行为倾向产生促进作用;此促进作用通过自我价值感知和自尊感知的链式中介效应传导;遭遇社会排斥后,若获得其他途径的自我肯定机会,则此促进作用会减弱。  相似文献
